Research at the LIR
At the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research, scientists from various disciplines such as (molecular) biology, neuroscience, medicine and psychology work together on an interdisciplinary basis. They interlink research in animal models and in humans using genetic, epigenetic, metabolic, biotechnological, physiological, psychological and social science methods and pursue a translational research approach to understanding resilience. The LIR currently consists of eight research groups, two associated research groups and one junior research group, which are internationally recognized for their high-ranking scientific publications and methodological expertise. There is particular expertise in the fields of molecular biology, epigenetics and cellular neuroscience, the analysis of neuronal networks, functional imaging, data modelling and machine learning, neurostimulation, the implementation of randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Furthermore, two research platforms have been established whose services are also made available to cooperation partners for a fee.
As a member of the Leibniz Association, the LIR currently receives funding from the federal and state governments, the European Union, the Japanese Science and Technology Agency, the non-profit Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and the German Research Foundation, in addition to basic funding from the federal and state governments.
